Interactions at work can feel stressful…

Emma Stubbings looks at how interactions at work can feel stressful…

“I feel scrutinised”
“I don’t feel like I’m trusted”
“I feel pressure to justify myself”
“My ideas aren’t taken seriously”
“It’s stressful when people in my team don’t get on”
“My frustration because of lack of progress isn’t listened to”
“It sometimes feels like utter chaos around me”

All of these scenarios are draining. And repeatedly, they zap our energy and can leave us feeling deflated, confused and even worse disengaged and overwhelmed

At Connect Outside, John and I openly admit to experiencing situations like this in the past. We’ve been there and know how it shapes our lives, our relationships, our perception of ourselves.

It’s big and it’s real and it’s uncomfortable.

But it’s not insolvable.

You see, we’re all a little different to each other. We intuitively need different ways of communicating, different frequencies, niceties, responses and outcomes. Yet…that’s the hidden bit. We can see ‘skill’, we can gauge personality, but how someone needs to communicate and act to feel ‘alive’ that’s the holy grail.

We use the GC Index to help teams learn about each other. In short, it’s a platform for the conversations that need to happen for a happy, productive team to emerge.

The language is brilliant, it’s non-confrontational and it’s not personal. An example would be” this GC Index team profile has made you the success you are today, how will you allow it to make you even more successful?”

We spend so much of our working life interacting with others and reaching for goals collectively, it’s essential to really understand what makes us inherently happy and unhappy.

Personally, I’d love to see a world where collaboration is king and we aspire for excellence in all our interactions.

But then…I’m a true Polisher/Playmaker so I would…wouldn’t I!
